When dealing with digital storage, terabytes are often associated with external hard drives for computers. But it might not be long before consumers will carry 1 TB in their pockets.
Tech company Kingston has unveiled a USB flash drive at International CES that boasts up to 1 TB of storage. That's roughly equivalent to 1,000 GB.
The DataTraveler HyperX Predator 3.0 flash drive with 1 TB of storage is expected to launch in the first quarter, says Kingston. In the meantime, the company offers the same drive capable of storing 512 GB. Both devices feature speeds up to 240MB/s when reading data and 160MB/s writing.
"The large capacity and fast USB 3.0 transfer speeds allow users to save time as they can access, edit and transfer applications or files such as HD movies directly from the drive without any performance lag," says Andrew Ewing, Kingston's Flash memory business manager, in a statement.
However, the larger storage comes with a massive price tag. According to the Kingston website, the 512 GB flash drive will set consumers back more than $1,300.
